Premier Furey needs to understand what it actually costs to live in Newfoundland. We pay more for everything here — groceries, fuel, you name it — and the provincial government moves so slow on any kind of relief. Young people keep leaving because there's no economic future here. When the next generation won't stay, that's a failure of leadership. We need real action, not just speeches.

Premier Furey has had years in office and Newfoundland families are still struggling. Cost of living in the province is brutal — groceries are expensive everywhere but it hits harder here. The provincial government hasn't done nearly enough to attract investment or create good-paying jobs. People are still leaving the province to find work. Leadership means results, not just showing up. This is not good enough.

Andrew Furey served as Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador from August 2020 to May 2025, inheriting a province facing a nearly $2 billion deficit and guiding it through the COVID-19 pandemic. He won a majority in the delayed 2021 election and stepped down voluntarily in February 2025. His most significant achievement came in December 2024: a landmark 50-year renegotiation of the Churchill Falls agreement — historically one of Canada's most inequitable energy contracts — securing $3.5 billion from Hydro-Québec and establishing co-development rights for new Churchill River energy projects, correcting a generational wrong. His government also advanced healthcare and childcare improvements and was an outspoken supporter of Ukraine. Criticism focused on entrenched healthcare access problems, continued fiscal fragility, and whether the province's structural challenges were sufficiently addressed. The Liberals' surprise election defeat in October 2025 under his successor suggested that underlying voter concerns about healthcare and cost of living were not fully resolved on his watch.
