Community Guidelines

Last updated: July 2026

Citizen Stance works because citizens like you share honest, constructive experiences. These guidelines help keep our platform fair, credible, and useful for everyone.

✅ Write from your own experience

Reviews should be based on your direct, first-hand interaction with a public servant or organization. Don't review someone you've never encountered in their official capacity, and don't write reviews based on what you've heard from others.

✅ Be specific and constructive

The most useful reviews describe what happened, what went well or poorly, and — where possible — what could be done better. Specific feedback is more credible and more useful to other citizens and to public servants themselves.

Good: "My permit application took 6 weeks longer than the stated timeline, and I received no communication during that period despite calling twice."

✅ Focus on official conduct

Public servants are reviewed in their professional roles only. Do not comment on a person's private life, family, appearance, religion, or anything outside their official duties. Citizen Stance is about accountability for public service — not personal judgement.

❌ No personal information

Do not include personal contact details — home addresses, personal phone numbers, personal email addresses — for any individual. Public servants have a right to privacy in their personal lives. Only information relevant to their official role is appropriate.

❌ No hate speech or harassment

Reviews that target someone based on their race, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristics will be removed. Threatening language, personal attacks, or content designed to intimidate will not be tolerated.

❌ No false or fabricated claims

Don't invent experiences you didn't have. Don't attribute quotes, actions, or statements to a public servant that you cannot honestly say occurred. False reviews undermine the credibility of the platform for everyone. Reviews that appear to be fabricated may be removed and accounts suspended.

❌ No conflicts of interest

Don't review someone you have a personal or financial conflict of interest with — for example, a family member, someone in a legal dispute with you, or a competitor. Don't coordinate with others to artificially inflate or deflate someone's rating.

🤝 One review per person/organization

Each account may submit one review per public servant or organization. Creating multiple accounts to submit additional reviews is not permitted and will result in account termination.
