Sean Fraser served as Canada's Immigration Minister during the period when immigration targets expanded rapidly — more than 400,000 per year — without sufficient infrastructure, housing, or services to support the arrivals. I am not anti-immigration. Immigration has built this country and continues to. But running a system where you're bringing in hundreds of thousands of people without enough housing for them, without enough healthcare workers to serve them, without enough settlement support — that's not a plan, that's improvisation. The strain showed up in rent prices, food bank lineups, and community services overwhelmed beyond capacity. Good intentions and a broken execution still causes real harm.

Sean Fraser had $4 billion, a mandate to fix housing, and over 100 municipalities signed up with him. By early 2024 he couldn't point to a single home built through his flagship fund. Then he resigned from cabinet and announced he wouldn't seek re-election. I'm a renter. My rent goes up every year. My grocery bill goes up every year. And a Housing Minister with billions in the bank produced nothing and then walked away. No consequences. He'll get consulting work and speaking invitations. I'll keep paying more for less. This is what failure without accountability looks like in this country. I'm done being patient with it.

Sean Fraser replaced Ahmed Hussen as Housing Minister in July 2023 with a mandate to finally make the government's $4 billion Housing Accelerator Fund produce results. By early 2024, Fraser himself acknowledged that not a single home had been built directly from the fund — despite signed agreements with over 100 municipalities. He attributed the delay to regulatory processes, but those barriers were entirely predictable going in. In December 2024, he announced he would leave cabinet and not seek re-election. Whatever he planned to accomplish, he left before accomplishing it. His record spans two consecutive failures on the most urgent domestic file of a generation: first as Immigration Minister, where record intake without matching housing supply accelerated the affordability collapse, then as Housing Minister where the flagship fund built nothing before he walked away. Canada's housing crisis continued to deepen throughout his time holding both portfolios.
